Any time a person lies, he/she plays with the risk of causing permanent damage to his/her own reputation. Even though some lies are more forgivable than others, once a lie is told, it is not easily forgotten by most. For celebrities, this risk is automatically elevated due to the fact that millions of people are often hanging on to their every word and every move they make.

NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams claimed he had been stuck down in a helicopter in 2003 during the Iraq War. Later, he was forced to recant his story stating he misremembered the event. It caused a public outrage and NBC suspended Williams. Since then, Williams has not had much of a career for a good reason.

Justin Bieber tweeted his laptop was stolen with lots of private pictures including nudies. When the real story was the laptop was not stolen and just a publicity stunt for his release of the music video Beauty and a Beat. Not a good move Bieber!
